23 years ago, my wife and I opened our yoga studio. It has taken on many shapes and forms, from a brick and mortar location to retreats to private sessions in my home studio to online classes. It has been a wild ride. In honor of our 23rd year of business, my wife decided to do a group, virtual Sound Bath Healing (one of her new certifications). She is doing it every Friday in May. Last Friday was her first one.
For those of you who are not familiar with sound baths, you find a way of making yourself completely comfortable (whether if that is lying on the floor with pillows under your knees or reclining in a chair). And, you just let the sound wash over you, clearing away anything that is preventing you from moving forward.
As you let the Bings, Bongs and Wooos wash over you, some of the sounds are beautiful and harmonic, while other sounds can be a little jarring and dissonant. Either way, the vibrations allow your energy to move. When your energy is moving, there is no way you can be stuck.
Now, here is how all this connects with my grief. Grief is just a vibration. It has its own frequency. Back in the early stages of my grief, that frequency was low and did not serve me. It kept me isolated and alone. It created an aggressive internal monologue of self-deprecation. I was the victim to my grief.
If you can, even for 1 second, believe your grief as a vibration and that you have the ability to adjust that vibration, then, it becomes easier to turn the dial up and down. You decide the frequency of your grief, rather than your grief deciding your frequency.
Also, one of the reasons that I did not learn to manage my grief in the beginning, and keep in the low frequency, was because I thought it was going to be scary and painful. The reality is that NOT dealing with it is scary and painful. I now realize that it is better for me to experience a little discomfort now in order to experience the ease later rather than experience temporary ease and let the discomfort linger for years.
Temporarily changing your physical frequency during the sound bath opens the door to work at up-leveling your mental frequency through your thoughts. Thoughts are also vibrations and you have the ability to decide the frequency of your thinking.
